Today the World Cup is the most watched sporting event on Earth, following a steady four-year rhythm that shapes the lives of players and supporters alike. Legendary matches and players have entered the world's shared memory, and the tournament has now reached every inhabited continent. The 2026 edition, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, expands the field to forty-eight teams and 104 matches — the largest World Cup ever staged.
