Better home broadband, and then smartphones, quietly dissolved the original office-shopping premise, yet the date kept its momentum. Around 2010, online sales on Cyber Monday first crossed the billion-dollar mark, cementing its place on the retail calendar. Since then the event has stretched well beyond a single day. Many stores now launch "Cyber Week" promotions that begin during the Thanksgiving weekend and run for days, blurring the once-clear line with Black Friday. The idea has also traveled abroad, as retailers in Britain, Europe, Latin America and Asia adopted the term to anchor their own late-November online campaigns. By sales volume it is dwarfed by China's Singles' Day on November 11, but Cyber Monday remains the largest online shopping day in the United States and a fixture of the global shopping season.
